The vast majority of all the food items used to feed the low income and needy among us through our Anti-Hunger Programs are donated. Volunteers from faith communities, organizations, clubs, corporations and individuals helped prepare and serve the meals. God Bless them all!

SHIP's Galley is a program of and service provided by the SHIP's Anti-Hunger Program. The Galley was established in the Fall of 1992 as a response to need for an on site meal program to feed the hungry in our region. It is operated by SHIP with the support of faith communities, organizations and other volunteers whose purpose it is to provide a nutritious meal to any person in need. The meals are served to anyone in need regardless of age, race, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, HIV status, residence or any other qualification. Our "open door" policy means that anyone in need is welcome to partake of this service.

It is our policy to provide:

- a meal to anyone who is hungry

- a meal free of charge.

- respect the guest's anonymity.

- the meal in a friendly atmosphere.

- treat the guests with dignity.

SHIP's Galley is primarily staffed by volunteers from area faith communities and caring individuals of the greater Somerset County area. To administer the service, SHIP's Galley employs a part-time director. The food items served are donated by participating faith communities, schools and community organizations. Volunteers from the participating faith communities cook, prepare, serve and clean up after the meals are served.

CONTRIBUTIONS ARE NEEDED

SHIP, the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program, Inc. is funded primarily by donations received from area churches, groups, and individuals. Every dollar counts -- no donation is too small! SHIP is responsible for site insurance, trash removal, provision of supplies and other commodities not donated and maintaining the site used.
