SHIP in Partnership with Red Ribbon Week - Drug Free at Hillsborough Township Schools in Somerset County 87 EAST HIGH STREET SOMERVILLE, NJ 08876 908-725-3260
October has been designated “Drug Prevention” month in Hillsborough. The community-wide Red Ribbon Week Campaign was October 23rd through October 31st. This year Hillsborough’s Red Ribbon Week Campaign theme was :
“Livin’ it DRUG FREE 24-7”
Red Ribbon Week, a nation-wide effort promoted by the National Family Partnership, is intended to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a Drug Free America. The local effort is obviously intended to pursue on an organized basis the achievement of this ideal goal in the Hillsborough Township community.
In an effort to support a drug free community, Hillsborough students wore a red ribbon each day during this important week. The students were also asked to ware a red article of clothing on Wednesday, October 25.
The Red Ribbon Committee helped SHIP by hosting an "I can, you can be drug free" food collection. The items were collected and picked up Mr. Tom O'Leary the Executive Director of SHIP. Mr. O'Leary talked to student assemblies regarding the issues surrounding the project and the need for community involvement. He also brought SHIP's Mobile Soup Kitchen - Disaster Unit to schedules schools for a visit. Mr. O'Leary visited Amsterdam School, Sunnymead School, Triangle School, Woods Road School, Woodfern School, Auten Road School, Hillsborough Elementry School and Hillsborough Middle Schools this year.
Special thanks to participating schools, staff and students and to Diane Handwerk District Life Skills Coordinator.
