(total) q 97,000+ meals served from our Mobile Soup Kitchen-Disaster Units at our feeding 5 sites. q 160,000+ meals served at SHIP's Galley I in Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Somerville □ 6,000 meals to victims of Hurricane Floyd q 10,000 meals served to the recovery workers at Ground Zero-World Trade Center q 20,000 Holiday Meal Dinners on New Years Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day q 2,209+ Meal Vouchers to local restaurants were provided at a cost of over $20,000 q 32,000 meals provided through SHIP-to-Shore Emergency Food Service to the hungry in the cities of Asbury Park, New Brunswick, Bradley Beach, Belmar, Neptune and Plainfield q 35,000 other meals were provided to those in need in the Somerset County region
HIV/AIDS EDUCATION/TESTING/PREVENTION PROGRAM (non funded) q 4,500+ people infected or affected with HIV/AIDS were assisted q 36 clients and friends were received into eternal rest. (they will be missed) q 150+ individuals were pre- and post-tested for HIV/AIDS at our Drop-in-Center in Somerville. In partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. $2,000.00 was distributed to help survivor families in need with burial cost assistance.
GROUND ZERO - WORLD TRADE CENTER 2001 & 2002 During the aftermath of the World Trade disaster of 9-11, SHIP once again responded to the call for help from the Emergency Service Units Command Center at Ground Zero. We provided over 10,000 gourmet meals to the uniformed service workers. The Mobile Soup Kitchen - Disaster Unit visited the red zone in Ground Zero every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from October 2001 to mid January 2002. Police and Fire Departments from throughout Somerset County escorted the MSK and support vehicles, carrying volunteers to the site each time we served meals. SHIP raised $75,000.00 and spent more to cover the cost of operations
HURRICANE FLOYD DISASTER RELIEF EFFORT - 1999During the aftermath of the recent Hurricane Floyd the Mobile Soup Kitchen – Disaster Unit responded to the call for emergency meals. SHIP’s staff and volunteer crews provided over 6,000 meals to the affected county residents who were displaced or unable to prepare meals because of the disaster. Staff and volunteer crews worked every day for the first fourteen days after the disaster struck.
Donations received totaled $11,606.94. Payments were made to 26 families or individuals affected by the disaster. The payments varied from a low of $250.00 to a high of $1,000.00. A total of over $11,606.94 was distributed to those in need of this emergency assistance. More than 20,000 personal items and household items were distributed and over 1,000 pieces of new clothing were also distributed to those in need.

q 14,000+ Individuals were provided with advocacy services. This includes interventions, which resulted in clients being provided with services that may have been originally denied by other service providers. q 396 Clients were provided with Flu and Pneumonia vaccinations through cooperation with the Somerville Health Department. The cost of the shots was covered by donations to SHIP. q 546 Clients were seen at the Saint Peter’s University Hospital Community Mobile Health Unit. The vehicle visits our Galleys and Mobile Soup Kitchen Sites. Clients were provided with Blood Pressure Screenings, Blood Sugar testing, and Flu Shots. Thirty one clients were referred for medical follow up regarding medical needs identified. q 574 Families or individuals were provided furniture and/or household items. q 12,276 Household items were distributed to those in need q 73,500 Articles of clothing were distributed to 27,689 people. q $9,120 In shoe and/or clothing certificates distributed to 480 people q 157 Individuals were provided free eye examinations, frames and glasses. q 28,000+ Hospitality packs were distributed – including: razors, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, etc. q 907 Individuals provided employment assistance. q 309 Utility payments made. q 14,000+ Direct agency advocacy interventions provided. q 877 Individuals provided transportation assistance. q 208 Emergency pharmaceutical payments were made for clients in need. q 21,960 Our Christmas Gift Program distributed gifts to 10,188 adults, 5,939 boys, and 5,848- girls. Christmas gifts were distributed to clients and agencies located in Somerset, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex and Monmouth Counties. □ 58 Haircuts at area salons □ 55 Emergency Showers □ 25 Donated Motor Vehicles given to clients in need □ $12,307 Cash payments to hurricane disaster victims □ 200+ Clients in need of medical care were referred to providers
